General Manager: Radio Broadcast Facilities (RBF)

Radio is South Africa’s biggest and most influential medium of communication. More South Africans listen to radio than they watch television and read print media combined and indeed a large portion of the country’s 44 million people rely on radio for up-to-date information and instant broadcasts.

Wildlife Sounds of the African Bush CD.

The Wildlife Sounds of the African Bush is an outstanding package, put together by well-known broadcaster, Isidor Davis, with collaboration from Dr Sue Hart and Dr Gordon MacClean, both well-known for their contribution to the wildlife.

This CD features life recordings of the bush wildlife, mostly done by Isidor Davies. No verbal narrative has been used; by carefully listening to all the animal sounds and referring to the accompanying booklet, one is able to piece together an eventful story unfolding at a watering hole.

The CD provides over 2 hours of uninterrupted sounds of the wild: from the lion to the lark; the wild dog to the duiker. Meticulous recordings of the African Fish Eagle, Cape Spotted Dikkop and Heuglin’s Robin makes this CD appealing to bird watchers too.

The double CD, Wildlife Sounds of the African Bush, is available in selected stored or can be ordered directly from the SABC.

Studio One in Port Elizabeth recorded Services Seta/Siyaya learner choir.

The Services Seta/Siyaya learner choir from Port Elizabeth (pictured below) in conjuction with local acapella group 'Key Note' were recently given the oppurtunity to work alongside international artist 'Justin Hines' when they participated in a South African remix of Hines' track 'Say what you will'.

The South African vocals for the remix were tracked at RBF's Studio One in Port Elizabeth adding a new flavour to Hines' hit song. The song will be available from the end of may globally on digital download with some of the proceeds going to charities in South Africa including the Association for the Physically Disabled Eastern Cape (APD) and the choir's fund.

Justin Hines is a Canadian singer songwriter born in New Market Ontario, he suffers from a rare genetic joint condition called Larsen's syndrome and uses a wheelchair. He is a strong supporter of charity and has performed at many fund raising events. He founded the Justin Hines Foundation, a charitable foundation for people with disabilities. Hines won FACTOR breakthrough artist of the year in Canada with his first album 'Sides' which was released in South Africa last year.
